The Mahnomen County
Historical Society was organized in 1981. The initial
goal, which still holds true today, is to "collect,
preserve and interpret" artifacts, collections and
information concerning the history of Mahnomen County.
2014 Special Exhibits:
June 22 - "Honoring the
Pioneers & Elders of the Community"
Samuel Memorial Episcopal
Cemetery Walk, Naytahwaush
1:00 to 3:00 p.m.
Lunch will be served - no
Stop by, walk the cemetery and hear
the re-enactors tell the stories of the elders and
pioneers of the area.
- "Inventors, Innovators & Entrepreneurs"
Minnesota Historic Northwest will be
sponsoring a traveling exhibit at the museum entitled,
"Inventors, Innovators & Entrepreneurs" Frances Keahna
and Dr. Wm. F. Kerssen will be highlighted from this
area. This is an exhibit you won't want to miss!
the season we will be exhibiting bridal finery and also
"Minnesota In the Civil War." Many soldiers from the
Reservation served in the Union Army. Very
interesting exhibit with items on loan from the
Minnesota Military Museum.

COUNTY HISTORICAL MUSEUM contains many interesting

Moonshine in Mahnomen
During the years of Prohibition, moonshining was common.
Most of the time, moonshine was made for private use.
